Course Descriptions
Estimating
Estimating Fundamentals -
This two-day
course is designed for all
beginning estimating users both Standard and Extended Estimating. Topics include
creating an estimate, doing takeoff (quick, item and assembly), modifying
estimate quantities and prices, modifying spreadsheet layouts, sorting
spreadsheet, and reports. This course is in a classroom environment where each
attendee will have their own workstation along with
comprehensive workbook with labs to work
through.
Database Fundamentals -
This one-day
course is for all estimating users
both Standard and Extended Estimating. The class focuses on building estimating
database from creating items in database, building assemblies, and writing
formulas. A large portion of this class is building assemblies and writing
formulas. Assemblies are where you can teach the software how to estimate a
group of items together such as a wall and have the software calculate all the
items needed for the wall. This course is in a
classroom environment where each attendee will have their own workstation along
with comprehensive workbook with labs to work through.
Estimating Extended -
This one-day course is for
estimating users of Extended Estimating and will cover setting up resources,
crews, labor and equipment rate tables, creating WBS codes, WBS libraries, and
adjusting spread sheet columns or range of cells by percentage, replacing or
spreading (distributes the specified amount to each cell based on its percent of
the original total).
A prerequisite for this class is our Estimate Fundamentals which covers the
essential foundation of the software. This course
is in a classroom environment where each attendee will have their own workstation
along with comprehensive workbook with labs to work through.
Model Estimating
- This one-day course is
for estimating users with the model module and will show you how to take
detailed assemblies and items to create conceptual models. When using
conceptual model, a detailed estimate is generated by answering a few simple
questions. The result is a remarkably precise conceptual estimate, because the
assumptions you make about a project are backed up by details - costs,
quantities, crews, hours, and waste factors - everything you need to support
your estimate. A prerequisite for this class is our Estimate Fundamentals which
covers the essential foundation of the software. This course is in a classroom
environment where each attendee will have their own workstation along with
comprehensive workbook with labs to work
through.
Power Estimating: Beyond
the Basics - This
one-day course will help you discover the power behind sorting and WBS codes,
give you helpful spreadsheet tips, cover better reporting and total - total page
revamp, and give you secrets behind Takeoff. You will also cover modules you
currently own and need to be used as well as other modules that can do tasks you
never knew about. This Course is for the experienced user looking to do more
with the software. Because or the amount of information to cover it is a lecture
only with no labs but attendee can ask questions.
Recommended sequence for
all estimating users -
Estimate Fundamentals & Database Fundamentals
courses are critical to effective use of estimating. We recommend that you take
both classes in the same week. Note for inexperienced computer users: Start
with Estimate Fundamentals and take Database Fundaments after practicing what
you learned in Estimate Fundamentals. Extended and Model Estimating are module
specific.
